the biggest startup saturday!

Thanks to Emma Jones MBE and her team at Enterprise Nation we attended the Biggest Startup Saturday at the weekend.

Aimed at aspiring entrepreneurs it was really insightful to meet and hear about the different business ideas other attendees had.  There was a real sense of creative energy in the room.  If you’ve never attended anything like this we thought it might be helpful to share our experience..

Narrated by Emma (who we have to say could sideline as a stand up comedian, she is simply brilliant) the day was made up of a series of talks from professionals in the industry who unlike other events where it feels like a sales pitch, simply offered their expertise and how best to apply their advice to our own businesses. Whether it be tips on website design and function, social media marketing, financing or just working smartly using apps and tools to facilitate your productivity, each speaker brought a different angle to the day and provided relevant resources to take away.

What better way to get face-to-face expert advice from people who are either experts in the industry or have been through the start up process and have survived their first year or two in business.  We were introduced to a panel of previous ‘students’ from the workshop - all of whom shared their story, the hurdles they have overcome and the relationships that have strengthened as a result of building a trusted network around you.  

We left feeling inspired and ever more determined to get our site launched by the end of this year.  With the ‘beg, borrow and barter’ mantra installed by Emma, we think we may well achieve it!
